We invest an incredible amount of stock in a psychological tomorrow: Both physical and mental stock.
This psychological tomorrow is the psychological me and psychological you. The future continuity of me.
We understand, to some extent, that the physical body will die. That’s not really what we fear to lose. We fear losing the psychological investment: The “me” and “you” that we think about, that is connected with images of the past, with what we think we are in connection with what we have, what we own and our ideas.
Terror occurs when we think that it will all end. Fear is caused by our imaginations.
