To have self-understanding and awareness, you must be mentally quick; to be mentally quick you must have no inward diversion. You must be able to see why you do what you do, must be able to see every movement of escape and be able to stay with it, not leave it, so you can understand it.
It’s not that you try to be quick. It’s that there is nothing separating you from what actually is; any movement of thought is seen as it is, and as it occurs.
This happens when you are watchful and very aware of how quickly and subtly thought breaks in to divert attention.
Understand, thought is tricky and will even try to be distracted from escape itself. The mind undisturbed by the disturbance of thought is able to understand its movement.
