Compassion doesn’t come for the sake of something, to get something or for the sake of yourself, or because it is “the right thing to do”. It comes when you see clearly what is happening with people. It comes when you see that people who are cruel, divisive and imprisoned by their ideology and doctrine are trapped by their own tragedy; and their lives are tragic from beginning to end, as long as they are unaware of their condition. That tragedy ends when they are aware. And that tragedy can end now.
Compassion is not feeling sorry for people, as in feeling better than them; compassion is never comparative. Compassion is not tolerance and acceptance.
Compassion is understanding. Understanding yourself is the same as understanding people. To understand, there must be complete freedom from those things concocted by thought.
